What is your favourite tattoo?
My favourite tattoo its my Unalome, I think the meaning is very beautiful, and its such a simple tattoo but it has so much to say. Specifically, the Unalome represents our path through life, so we can say that it symbolises the individual and changing path that we each have throughout our existence. Thus, each part of this symbol represents a phase or stage of life. The path begins at the centre of the spiral-shaped part, is the part that represents us at birth, and that symbolises the difficulty of learning about oneself, possible uncertainties, confusions and fears.
As we move forward in the design of the symbol, that is to say that we advance in life and what symbolises that there is illumination to learn and improve, we leave the spiral and find curves. These represent situations of changes or points of inflection from which we learn, make us stronger and, in addition, we become wiser over the years, making progress until we know ourselves.
After the curves, a part appears in the form of a straight line, the point where we have already really got to know ourselves and we have reached wisdom. Some designs include one or several points after the line, symbolising that after reaching the end of the road, in reality, it is not known what comes next and what can happen. Therefore, the meaning of the Unalome is the representation of our own path through life and the path to reach our own wisdom.
Both the spiral and the curves and the end of the Unalome can have the shape you want. For example, you can add the curves you want to the direction you like. Thus, many people add some curve in vertical to one of the sides in addition to their own horizontal or include other symbols, such as lotus flowers, moons, suns, and so on. The symbols added are usually placed in the centre of the spiral, so it means that this symbol represents us from our birth, that we identify with it, or at the end of the straight line or the points, which usually means that we become in it, being the goal, or that is our path, like life itself
